Jupiter

This year, ROAR is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Since our inception, we have found loving homes for thousands of dogs and cats, provided essential medical care, and supported countless animals through challenging times. Throughout 2025, we will be sharing stories about some of our most memorable guests.

The first of these precious animals is Jupiter, a beautiful, one-year old calico cat, who came to ROAR from Animal Care Centers of New York City (ACC NYC) with severe breathing issues and a mysterious scar in her eye. She had been in a house fire with another cat she lived with before they were dropped off at ACC NYC. While her health issues may not be related to the fire, ROAR is not certain.

Despite her rough start, Jupiter was an incredibly sweet and affectionate cat who loved nothing more than getting lots of pets and cuddles. One of her most endearing qualities was how much she loved to purr. However, due to Jupiter’s health condition, she struggled with finding a home.

ROAR provided Jupiter with the veterinary care that she desperately needed including a myriad of tests, x-rays and other diagnostics, medications, a ballooning procedure to help her breathe and an overnight stay at the vet hospital before coming back into ROAR’s care to recover. Fortunately, Jupiter did not require any additional veterinary care for the eye scar.

This special girl was finally adopted by a friend of one of ROAR’s staff members who was a huge advocate for this wonderful cat. She is now living her best life with another cat sibling too.

Just like Jupiter, while ROAR’s cats and dogs transition from their homeless state to your family’s home, they live with us. During their stay, we provide for their four basic needs of love by our staff and volunteers, food, shelter and medical care. We provide the love for free, but the expenses for the remaining three basic needs continue to rise, and through your generous donations, we hope to rescue many more homeless and needy animals like Jupiter.

To help rescue more animals like Jupiter, ROAR is asking supporters to please consider donating to ROAR’s $25 for 25 in 2025 campaign. We are asking for contributions of $25 or more on the 25th of each remaining month this year. Every donation helps provide our cats and dogs with food, shelter, and medical care as they journey from homelessness to loving families.

Donations can be made online at https://givebutter.com/WdFhTZ. Donors can also submit cash or checks payable to ROAR by mail or in person at the ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter at 45 South Street, Ridgefield, CT.
