ANIMAL CARE ASSISTANT

Opening for an experienced Animal Care Assistant.   Candidates must have excellent customer service and communication skills and a positive and compassionate attitude to become a member of our team.
Our Animal Care Team works closely with our Volunteer program, Veterinary team, Training and Behavior program and the Foster program to ensure the smooth and efficient movement of animals from intake to adoption.
Duties include but are not limited to: Housekeeping: laundry, mopping, sweeping and cleaning exam/treatment room and kennels and shelter building; Feeding, medicating and care of dogs and cats; Experienced candidate must feel comfortable working with shelter Veterinarian, assisting with animal handling and restraint and be comfortable lifting animals, food and litter – 60+ lbs. This is a demanding but rewarding position.
Candidate must be a reliable self-starter, good team player, able to work efficiently without direct supervision and dependable. Have exceptional customer service skills, ability to multi-task, friendly positive attitude, forward thinking and proactive, take direction well and have confidence to deal with stressful situations on a daily basis. Knowledge and experience in animal care, training, and handling in a shelter setting for both dogs and cats is strongly preferred.
Hours are part-time (combination of weekday morning/nights and weekend morning/nights); ~20+ hours p/week. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to get to work in all kinds of weather related situations .
